Rockville Town Square Fountain

The Equipment
Water jets within a large circle of tiles draw in kids to splish and splash in the main town square. Around 20 streams of water shoot up from the ground to a height a bit taller than an average adult. This fountain doesn’t seem to have as many sporadic on/off, taller/shorter sprays as some other fountains I’ve seen. Be prepared to get wet if you need to help a child in the middle of the fountain (though the jets’ spacing might allow for only minor drenching). Benches and a covered pavilion are right next to the fountain. Beyond the pavilion is a street, so make sure kids don’t run close to it. Water shoes are allowed.
The Scene
The town square is a lovely setting, with nice stone and brickwork. There’s also a turf area that includes large rocks kids love to climb. The fountain is generally turned on May through September, from 11am to 9pm Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 8pm on Sunday, but it’s off during weekly events, during storms, and at other times. (Check the website for the latest schedule.) First Watch, Five Guys, Lebanese Taverna Cafe, Noodles & Company, an ice cream shop, and a frozen yogurt place are all right here, as is a toy store, the 100,00-square-foot Rockville Memorial Library, and many other shops. Three parking garages are right off the square, and stores validate for two free hours with any purchase; the library also validates.
Age Recommendation
All ages, but keep an eye on little ones — it’s easy to get bumped.
Restrooms
The library has restrooms in the lobby. We changed clothes in our car.
