Hearst Park

The Equipment
The toddler section is full of fun stuff your little ones won’t know where to begin.  There are two play houses with a metal corkscrew climber, steering wheel, cargo rope net, hideaway bench.  The other one has two slides and a metal rock wall.  Mushroom stumps add a bit of whimsy and there are gear boards and a tic-tac-toe board along with a set of short, standing spinners.  Two bucket and two regular swings complete this area.
For the older children, there is a disc-shaped swing that can seat up to three children.  A large ropes course also has balance boards, hoops and circular standing spinners.  There are whisper phones and four regular swings featuring flat seats as opposed to curved ones.
The Scene
Hearst Park is across the street from Sidwell Friends School.  The playground is spacious and vibrant with a favored rubber surface.  The only caveat is that there is little shade.  There are two playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts and a soccer field.  There is a water fountain and picnic tables and benches are spread throughout.  Street parking is easier to find when school is not in session.  We went on a weekend and there plenty of spaces.
